Our Brazil nuts grow in densely growing rainforests. The trees can reach the age of 300 years. Our Fairtrade brazil nuts are all very attractive in appearance, as they are hand sorted with the greatest care. The wild nuts are pale to dark brown and the colours are strong. Their taste is very pleasant and slightly nutty. The nuts are very crunchy, just as they should be. The shells are completely removed, having undergone several controls.
Origin and production:
We source our wild organic Fairtrade brazil nuts from Bolivia. Members of the COINACAP cooperative in the Bolivian rainforest gather and process the brazil nuts using sustainable methods. By purchasing, reselling or processing our organic Fairtrade brazil nuts, you support the cooperative and also help to protect the rainforest, our planet’s «green lung ». By working with Fairtrade, the farmers can provide their families with a secure income and offer their children new opportunities.
Brazil nuts are harvested during the rainy season from November to March. Brazil nuts that have fallen to the ground are gathered up by hand and then cracked open with a machete to uncover the nuts. The nuts are washed before being dried. They are sorted with extreme care in so-called collection centres, and hand sorted several times. Harvesting, drying and sorting are carried out using strictly hygienic methods and with the greatest care.
The brazil nuts are pressure treated and controlled in Austria. During the pressure process , the combination of pressure and time ensures that the product is completely free of pests.
